Lunar Eclipse Jan 20/21, 2019
The night of January 20, extending after midnight into Jan 21 there will be a total lunar eclipse well positioned for us in Raleigh. The moon will start fading away by 10pm and will then be cast in a reddish hue as the total lunar eclipse begins at 11:41pm. The moon will be fully eclipsed until 12:43am and then take about two additional hours to exit the Earth’s shadow. RAC does not have a public event planned for the eclipse…

Our next imaging meeting will be Thursday the 18th at 7:30pm and we will be returning to our new location, Manchester’s Grill. It is located at 9101 Leesville Rd, Raleigh, NC 27613 and we will be using the same meeting room in the restaurant. For this month’s topic, member Rowland Archer will talk about his experiences using the Astro Pixel Processor Software in his imaging workflow. As usual, bring by your astrophotos to share.

Successful Lunar Graze on July 2
On Sunday night / Monday morning, several members of RAC met at the Crossroads shopping center to observe a grazing lunar occultation of the star Delta Capricorni. Rarely do we observe in a location bright enough for a photo, but this graze was observed under lots of light as you can see below.
