RACOBS
The RAC observing sessions (RACOBS) are monthly observing sessions held a dark[er] sky site around Raleigh. The sessions are weather dependent. We currently use up to three sites, depending on “keyholder” availability. We have a site near Jordan Lake, in Johnston County, and North of Raleigh. For observing session go/no-go status, locations, and start times, keep an eye on club communications.
RAC does allow a few guests to attend RACOBS nights with the understanding these are not the same as our public nights. Members are working on their personal observing goals. If you are interested in joining the club, want to meet club members, go a bit deeper than we do during public nights, need a little help with your telescope, or have some other need to attend, let us know your interest. For security purposes, we regret that we are unable to post directions to the observing sites. If you need directions or to reserve a spot, please contact the club at [email protected] at least 24 hours before the night of the observing session. No telescope is needed to join us.
