The June RACOBS was June 10. About 10-12 RAC members and a few guests enjoyed a night under the stars.

Sunset: 8:31pm
Astronomical Twilight: 10:19pm

For the most part, the weather was average until later in the eve, when the clouds started to roll in. We just can’t seem to get a break with the weather. Interestingly, it actually got warmer as the night progressed. A bright meteor was seen by many early in the evening. Also the ISS made a short pass from 10:49-10:52pm. With a reasonably bright moon, we did indeed focus on plants with a mix of people imaging and visually observing. Jupiter, right near the moon, looks pretty good. Saturn and Mars, though low to the south were above the trees and easily visible. Late in the night Sagittarius was at its peak elevation in the sky – the lagoon, trifid, and swan nebula were nice.

Steve C. posted a timelapse of the skies for the evening. Mike M. posted shots of planets he took at RACOBS, even with the “average” sky conditions.

Most of use hung around to a little after mid-night before packing it in. The last folks packed up and left about 1:15am.
