- Meeting Description: Discover how interpretive astronomy can transform observation sessions and star-parties into meaningful connections—linking science, story, and stewardship beneath the night sky.
- Speaker: Doug Lively, RAC Member, NASA / JPL Solar System Ambassador
- Bio:
Doug Lively graduated from North Carolina State University (Go Pack!) with a BS in Computer Science. After graduation he developed Aerospace Communications devices for the space / aeronautics industries and then moved into the medical devices industry. He has over 25 years of biotech-pharma experience, 14 years’ experience as a certified Project Management Professional, and is based in the RTP area of North Carolina.
He has been an avid Amateur Astronomer since 1996. He has previously served as a Raleigh Astronomy Club (RAC) co-chair, Public Information contact, and Astronomical League Coordinator for RAC. In 2019, He was invited to become a NASA / JPL Solar System Ambassador and was recently awarded the Title of Master Observer by the Astronomical League (2021). In 2022 he was selected by the National Park Service to become an Interpretive Astronomy Ranger at Glacier National Park.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Debbie, camping, fishing, and likes engaging young and old alike in astronomy and space science. He also enjoys volunteering at the NC Museum of Natural Science or North Carolina State University, and can often be found giving astronomy lectures, presentations or leading events at local parks and public venues on weekends.
