It took us over 30 years to accomplish this but the RAC had it’s first virtual meeting. The topic was Saturn V: The Rocket That Took Us To The Moon. I think it is fitting since it has been 50 years since the Apollo first went to the moon. It was out of necessity that the RAC had to have a virtual meeting. Due to the restrictions that the Covid-19 pandemic put us in. In some cases the on line meeting was better then the in-person meeting. When the certificates were presented I could see them clearly on my monitor.
In case you missed it you may see the video here.
In case you are not familiar with Zoom, Zoom is easy to use. I have attended a couple of meetings in the last few months. Several features I have used include the Chat feature. Now be careful, when the video is saved the chats are also saved and they are not private so if you send something direct to an individual, as I understand it they are readable by others. You may choose to mute yourself or the host of the meeting has the ability to mute and unmute you. If you have others that come in the room you are in and people in the zoom meeting may hear your conversations with others in your room. You may raise your hands and the host will be able to recognize you. When I did it for the meeting, I wasn’t recognized but it is available. The host will need to get in practice to looking at the dashboard. Another feature I have used is the Gallery feature. This allows you to see everyone on the zoom meeting. You are able to switch to just seeing the speaker or view the gallery. I haven’t played with the background much but you may change your background to one of several templates offered by Zoom.
Zoom did receive some negative press about security features, but I noticed they do allow a password feature as well as a waiting room so the host will have to give permission to allow someone to attend the meeting.
