On Thursday night, July 24, RAC participated in the NC Museum of Natural Sciences Title 1 School Night program. Over a hundred guests interacted with our exhibits in the NRC lobby. Club members set up binocular and telescope stations along with hi-res images of the moon that visitors enjoyed viewing. Frank W, Doug L and Daniel K answered lots of questions and kids enjoyed getting glow sticks for viewing the moon.
We also set up an Exoplanets exhibit with a lego orrery, photometer and laptop that was used to explain how the Kepler Space Telescope detects planets around other stars. The Exoplanets orrery was a big hit with the kids and Mike K stayed very busy doing demos. We also set up scale models of our Solar System and the Kepler-20, Kepler-30 star systems. Kids enjoyed comparing Earth’s size to other planets and had a lot of great questions.
