- Public Observing
International Sun Day 6/22
This is located at the museum and will be when the museum is open on Sunday. These hours are 12pm to 5pm. Bring your telescope and filter to observe the sun. The club is looking for observers for this day.
- Committees
The club has several goals and is trying to spread out the tasks from just a small group of people. This will help people have more interaction with the club. Some committees like the Astronomy Days and the observing – many are already doing. By making these committees, it helps to formalize the structure a bit and make sure that we have enough coverage.
Here is a list of all the committees. Below that list is some information about the committees from Mike Keefe. Please consider joining one.
Greeting Committee
Observing Committee
Learning Astronomy Committee
Telescope Loaner Committee
Astronomy Days Committee
Below is a description of the committees
I wanted to raise the discussion again around opportunities for individuals to be more involved in the club. The lack active participation from a wide and diverse set of club members can spell stagnation and attrition for any organization. Interest in Astronomy is on the rise globally. We can help cultivate that interest not only within our club but also the broader local community. You can be a part of this process.
We’ve set up an easy way for you to sign up for a committee by using the form located at the URL below; please note that you do NOT have to log into any site to access the form below:

We are not only looking for folks to serve on committees but also lead or co-lead these committees. We are recruiting for the following committees:
* Greeting Committee: Looking for approx 6 members to serve as greeters at indoor meetings. They would be responsible for welcoming guests and new members as well as either answering questions or introducing them to experienced members that may be able to help. The plan is to schedule 2 greeters to serve each month, thus a total of 4 times a year.
* Observing Committee: We need several people to help plan and coordinate public observing sessions (like the Statewide Star Party). These public events are such a great way to share Astronomy that we would love to do more than just one a quarter.
* Learning Astronomy Committee: This group of people will ensure classes are scheduled with the museum, update course content, schedule clinics and solicit volunteers for the events. We would also encourage this committee to branch out into other areas such as skills videos on YouTube, etc.
* Telescope Loaner Committee: Rather than this fall on one volunteer (currently John Irwin) it would be very helpful to have at least one more person, if not two to assist John in managing this great resource for club members.
* Astronomy Days Committee: This group will help plan exhibits, speakers, and other events related to Astronomy Days. Also this group would assist in recruiting volunteers to work at the exhibits, provide talks and lead workshops.
Please consider volunteering for one (or) more of these committees.
