There was a special indoor meeting for the Raleigh Astronomy Club on Friday, January 24,2014. We were fortunate to have Russian Space Policy expert Yuri Karash on the state of the Russian space program. As a former cosmonaut trainee and journalist, he was able to provide a fascinating look at the space program and provide context around public attitudes toward space inside Russia. Going to space… Many people dream of this life-changing experience, but only few have enough resources to actually don a spacesuit, get into a spacecraft and go into extraterrestrial space. So, we’re left with experiencing space through entertainment, and a new Kickstarter project called, “Space Pioneer” http://spacepioneer.org/ might just become the most realistic interactive venture through interstellar void yet.
Why? Because if the game gets funded, it’ll be made by real-life astronauts, designers and engineers who created real spaceflight hardware. People who actually went to space and those who made it accessible to humans are trying to make a game where you go, live and work in space.A Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign opened in mid-January for the game Space Pioneer, which was created by a team of space and video game professionals.
This team consists of world famous astronauts, cosmonauts, engineers, designers, programmers, artists and architects who allow us to construct a game that will be the most accurate virtual representation of our universe and space activities to date. Space Pioneer aims to be a game that is highly entertaining and educational. Our game chiefly focuses on interstellar exploration; it is based on images and resources from the Hubble telescope, ESA/NASA, numerous well known observatories as well as experience of cosmonauts/astronauts, space designers and engineers. The player will be able to design, develop and build and pilot a fully customizable spaceship into the vast regions of our universe and can colonize other planets beyond our solar system. In addition, he or she can research different scientifically accurate theories to upgrade their spaceship, build vast space stations and terra-form inhospitable planets.
One the most thrilling and exciting aspects of the game will be handling emergency situations during space voyagers as well as interactions with alien not always friendly life and environment.
