On Saturday, October 20th, RAC held a public observing session at one of Raleigh’s newest parks, the Annie Wilkerson Nature Preserve. Over 75 members of the public came out to enjoy the night skies despite the cloud cover.
According to Marti Kane at the park, this was a first time event for the new park. All the RAC members present did a great job of working around the spotty cloud cover that blew in and treated the public some good viewing. Some of the objects viewed were: the Moon, Neptune, M13, M15, M2, M103, M45, M57, M27, M34, M31, Double Cluster, and Alberio. The guests had a lot of great questions about the sky and our equipment, which astronomers, of course, are always glad to discuss!!
