Co-chairperson Steve Blake led the meeting at the NCSU Crafts Center.
30 members, 2 guests attended.
This meeting had two short topics.
- “Grazing Occultation of the Moon” by RAC member Mark Lang. Mark discussed the team of RAC members that he organized to view the July 2 occultation of Delta Capricorni by the moon. Some members attempted to image the event which was made difficult by the bright gibbous moon. RAC member Mike Keefe shared some of his video results and some stills taken by member Jim Michnowicz with his phone. RAC member Joe Pedit also submitted some stills. Remaining team members observed visually.
- “Telescopes Part 1: Reflectors” by RAC member Phyllis Lang. Phyllis gave a very brief history of the Newtonian reflector, described how it worked and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the design. She illustrated with her 8” Dobsonian mounted reflector.

An event is being scheduled with Rogers Lane Elementary in Raleigh, perhaps in October. Large attendance (1000s) is anticipated so please stay tuned for a formal announcement.
Speakers for the September and October meetings are being finalized and will be announced soon. Dr. Katie Mack of NCSU will speak on 30 November. We are trying to arrange a larger meeting space for this popular speaker.
