Club member Mike Keefe gave a great talk on smartphone and tablet apps that can help you with your observing. The audience had plenty of questions and feedback based upon their own experiences with these apps. About 20 apps were covered spanning the following areas: planetarium/charts, planning tools, general info tools and weather. Most of the apps are free or inexpensive. Mike gave an overview of each app, cost, supported operating system and features. This meeting was streamed live and can be viewed on the Raleigh Astronomy YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrx3NSjfH5M
In the business portion of the meeting, we discussed upcoming observing events this fall at the NC Museum of Art, NC Museum of Natural Sciences and the Annie Wilkerson Nature Preserve. On the awards front, Doug L received an Astronomical League award for completing the Caldwell List observing program with over 70 galaxies, star clusters and nebula logged. Brian R received the Globular Cluster observing program award with over 50 globular star clusters logged and sketched. Congrats guys!
