Public Observing

Public Observing Sessions and Outreach Events

While RAC is a hobby club, we share our interest in the night sky with the local community. The public nights are free (though tickets may be needed) and open for all ages to attend. We bring the telescopes and experience for you to learn and enjoy. If you are bringing children, please encourage them to not run around the telescopes. We ask that white lights (e.g. flashlights) be kept to a minimum to enjoy the darkness and let our eyes adapt to get the most from the night sky. We do our best to keep the waits at telescopes reasonably short, but Astronomy isn’t an active sport, so dress as if it is 10 degrees cooler than forecast.

Also, check the event entry in our club calendar before heading out for an observing session. Poor weather conditions are common in NC and may result in cancellation of the event. Remember, it’s not just rain, but also clouds which can prevent us from observing. We will update the calendar entry in case of cancellation.

A list of upcoming public events is below. New events will be added as they are scheduled.
