Oct. 8, 2010 RACOBS. Weather cooperated so an outdoor observing session was held at BigWoods. There were 14 RAC members and 6 visitors present. Some Club members were at the Mid-Atlantic Star Party which held down attendance somewhat. Sky conditions were good allowing nice views of the planets and deep sky objects. One highlight of the evening was a transit of Io across Jupiter.
Nov. 12, 2010 RACOBS. A crowd of around 20 people with around a dozen scopes showed up at BigWoods on a cold clear night. A thick crescent moon remained in the sky until after 11pm limiting deep sky opportunities. There was a mix of mostly visual observers with a few astrophotographers. A couple of new telescopes debuted tonight. A few people stayed around after moonset, but most people were gone by then.
Nov. 26, 2010 Regular/RACOBS meeting. Since this was the day after Thanksgiving the Museum was schedule to be closed. It was decided to make this meeting the second RACOBS meeting of the month. As fate would have it, weather prevented an outdoor observing session, so the meeting was canceled.
Dec. 10, 2010 RACOBS. The outdoor RACOBS was canceled due to cloudy weather so a meeting was held at the Museum of Natural Sciences. Jim Pressley and Pat Moore held an interactive discussion about “Choosing the Perfect Eyepiece”. Jim and Pat brought a variety of eyepieces, barlows, and even an 80mm refractor pointed at a resolution test chart. Members of the audience were invited to come up observe the chart while substituting several eyepiece and Barlow combinations.
