RAC is an active hobby club with hundreds of members across Raleigh, NC, the surrounding communities, and beyond. You can find us on the internet and through our outreach activities in the community. Here is a list of some of the more common ways to find us!
1. Follow us on Social Media
RAC has stepped up our social media game. You will find daily posts on facebook and twitter. Many of our meetings are now recorded and are put on our Youtube channel a few days after the meeting.

2. Join Us For a Meeting or Event
Keep an eye on our Club Calendar and make plans to join us. There is never a fee for our meeting though many of our events require registration.
Monthly Indoor Meeting – This is our regularly scheduled club meeting which includes a presentation followed by a business meeting. Guests do not need to stay for the business meeting.
Imaging Meeting – RAC has a very active astrophotography group who meet monthly for a presentation and to share recent images.
RACOBS – Being an astronomy club, we also meet monthly for an outdoor observing session. This session is open to the public, but intended for those with a deeper interest in the hobby. Email us for more information.
**During COVID, RACOBS is not open to the public***
3. Join us for a Public Event
Astro Talk – RAC has been hosting Astro-Talk sessions. These video chats are designed for any and all questions about astronomy. We can talk about upcoming astronomical events, equipment, phenomenon, etc. These sessions have no predefined agenda as a pure Q&A with RAC representatives.
Public Observing – Join RAC either virtually or in-person (post-covid) to get a view through a telescope.
4. Drop us a Message
RAC responds to emails ([email protected]) and facebook messages. Please be patient with us as we are volunteer based. We have answered some of the most common questions:
What Telescope Should I buy?
Where Are Good Places to Skywatch?
Can I Donate a Telescope to RAC?
Can RAC Help with my Telescope?
5. Become a Member
If you enjoy any aspect of astronomy, a RAC membership is your pass to exploring and expanding that interest. Our members have diverse skills and interests and our email discussion group is active. Members also know what events are happening and most of the time members do not need to register in advance.
